2D Narrative-focused Typing Game

Bubble Thoughts.

A narrative-driven typing game where you try to pen down your thoughts in a quiet moment of reflection—but distractions, drifting ideas, and emotional diversions constantly pull your attention away. There’s no winning or losing—just a sensory experience shaped by calming music, fragmented memories, and the rhythm of your own thoughts.

The Brief.

Bubble Thoughts was created during Global Game Jam 2025, responding to the theme “Bubble.” Our team decided to look beyond the literal and developed a game based on thought bubbles—capturing the experience of writing while thoughts drift and distractions arise.

We took on the added challenge of developing the game in Godot, an engine none of us had used before. I was responsible for implementing art assets and designing the UI layout, working quickly to assemble a cohesive and immersive visual experience as assets were produced.

Early sketch by our artist on what the game would look like.

Uncharted Territory.

Transitioning to Godot presented a significant challenge, especially given the tight 3-day timeline to complete the game. With no prior experience in the engine, adapting quickly became crucial. I had to rapidly identify concepts and tools I could leverage from my existing knowledge, and then test and iterate constantly to see what would work. This hands-on approach allowed me to tackle obstacles as they came up, ensuring that we could still meet the project’s goals while learning the engine on the fly.

Piecing together the art assets into a cohesive user interface.
